Writing to Pages or to Goals?
This is the debate that goes on in my head now that I am editing my manuscript. Do I edit say, 3 pages per day or do I edit to have no more edits?
For me this debate is easy, I edit so that there is less time editing. Not that I don’t like editing, it more that I am a creative person, who wants to write. Fiction, Non-fiction it doesn’t matter so long as it’s something new.
Of course I still have to edit. I’ll deal with that later.
I write to pages when I write something new, for example, I write three pages a day before any revisions, to anything. I write in my fiction novel. Of course, I need to see where my non-fiction is heading, but at least my computer does a better job of cut and paste for me. Of course three pages is the minimum I set for myself. It is important to make a minimum.
I can’t stress this enough. For me three pages of new fiction work a day is the minimum.
As for my non-fiction, my editing goal is at least one page per day done right. If I get more done great!
I enjoy this since it means I’ll have a good book to send out to publishers and literary agents.

I love setting goals for myself, but I almost always tend to not follow them. Sometimes I wander why I even bother!

All you said makes absolute sense. A goal achieved eggs you on. Personally, I believe in short-term goals, like you mentioned three pages a day. That's a short-term goal to achieve the ultimate goal. That helps!
