On Blogging and Creating a Blog

Why do we think about writing, and then as writers think about blogging and creating a blog? Perhaps because it is so easy and perhaps because it is something we can do as a writer for a greater network than what we originally thought possible.

So then the question becomes how do we go about creating a blog? Writing a blog is simple really, but creating a blog is harder.

Well, for the ones who aren’t technically minded, there is blogger, wordpress, and typepad, or you can if you are more technically inclined, create one yourself. I only wish I could create one myself, but I suspect that should I ever plan to do this, well, anyone who knows a great website person can contact me!

As for blogging, I also believe this is the way we showcase our work to people, it is our way to show that we’ve “got” what it takes, for example, people can “Stumble Upon” my blog, and rate it, (yes it is on Stumble Upon.) So how does that help me? It’s not unlike publishing a book, but in many ways it’s a bit harder, you do all the work.

Blogging is the one way people can connect and they way that people connect is by writing a blog that people need to go and see, so then how do you make it a need to see blog? That’s up to you. One of my blogs is one writing and yes there are so many people on it, but I also have a blog on Transylvania.

That one is more niche but the people there are awesome, and often know more than I do, but it’s a blog where there is a lot of knowledge exchange, and people know this.

So, My question for you today is this: What kind of a blog do you have and where do you want it to go?

i have several blogs about different subjects. One of my passions is fly fishing. i've grown it up from nothing to a successful blog. It's translated into a few freelance magazine writing gigs.

Who knows where it'll go, but I'll keep writing it.

I write a blog about family travel. I love travel, and think it's a fantastic education for children, so I want it to encourage people to travel with their kids. I also write for several websites so I use it to promote my writing. Oh, and in an ideal world it would make some money as well!

I'm still in the first sixty days, so I'm not sure where I want the blog to go. A perfume blog? A blog about cluttering and hoarding and dealing with hoarding family members? A blog about roleplaying or fiction or both, and plots and characters? A garden-journal blog that's interesting enough to read?

I write a lot, and occasionally I write something that seems worthy of having been written, but it's almost all forum posts and other very transient things. So I guess I'd like a blog that could hold those things worth-having-been-written, but first it has to be a blog that's interesting enough to inspire me to write something worth writing, ideally with an audience that drives me to write them.

But, again, I'm at day 41. Right now, I'm still just pushing myself to write a post every day, and waiting to see where it leads.

    Hi Rebecca,
I tend to ramble a lot about almost anything on my blog.
I would like to talk more about my fiction writing but I more often talk about other things.

Also I popped by to let you know I have posted your Guest Post on my blog today.

I have several blogs and multiple reasons for blogging. I like to connect with people, support them through tough things, be supported myself, relate to other writers, have editors and readers notice my work, educate and inform people on topics, share ideas, etc. I blog because it's an extension of writing and I love to write so why not write on a blog since it's so easy. Great post.

    Hi Rebecca,
I've followed your blog for some time now and find it informative and fun. Thank you for that!

I started blogging roughly six years ago after I had my fourth child and it use to be fun. Things happen and we tend to get lost not only in our writings but what they originally meant to us.

My writings as of late have become more of a chore rather than a pleasure at times, at least one of my blogs. I've always loved to write even though I failed English miserably. It's become my outlet, my voice and that will continue.

You often evoke deep thought in me. Job well done!
