Terrible, Horrible, No Good Writing and Other Editorial Musings
I am reminded of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day when it comes to my personal editing.
I am ‘blind’ when dealing with my writing, I will find some mistakes but all. I need my editor, and one of the many things they do for me is showing me where the rhythm of writing can be improved. Then they go through a lot while reading these blogs and other pieces of my writing. I also know, how to improve on a rather flat boring area and make it sound better, and it is all because my editor is willing to tell me what works and what does not.
This avoids the “terribly terrible writing.”
My most profound hope is that he can stand me, and improve my writing, for the next few years. Yes, years, it is not as if I can publish a book and then not have an editor for your next one. I am planning a series of books, each one dealing with a niche market about Transylvania, Romania. The challenge for this is that the first book might not be the best, but the second has to be better. I had hoped to have one done by September and one finished early next year. Again, this shows a novice writer at their finest, our expectations are always a bit too high for what we can accomplish. I assumed a lot of things, and a fast pace was one of them, but also how a reader views the inside of my book.
To publish a book and to love what you do is important- the passion should be there! To be able to live a life of writing and feel valued as a writer is wonderful. The journey is getting to this point, and it means building up a team. That is a lot of writing and rewriting. Commitment to the craft of the writer.
