Writing and Editing A Book
I am not sure how much writing I get done these days, but I am sure that I am doing a lot more re-writing.
It is possible that I am more critical of my own writing or maybe after seeing success once I want to have more success in publishing another book. To me, this means more than pocket money, but something
I can understand why people want to publish more than one book, even more so that they want a series of books. While some writers can and do have success, big-money fame type success with their first books, most of them go on to publish another book. This is not because it isn’t well written, but because the money only comes after many tries.
What does this have to do with writing?
Well, in my case, when I publish another book, I want to make it better than my last one, I’ve learned the benefits of writing, and the benefits of what works better. I am sure that every writer dreams of achieving great success with their first book, but then we realize that great editing is a huge must. After all, Harry Potter wasn’t an overnight success, but it grew with each book and word of mouth.
I might really want to have another book out by the end of the year but if the editing is not good, then my book will not sell. Note: I mean getting a good editor – not the one who tries to save my ego and will not tell me if the book is horrid or they can not understand it.
Not editing your book with care is a bad thing in my mind.
I think that readers will also review it poorly which will affect my long-term goal of writing for a living. Just like writing a blog, editing needs to be done.
One note: getting an editor is a must as well, not just any person can edit. That to me is money well spent. It goes with writing, spend your money on what you need and not what you think you need when it comes to writing a book.
