Publishing a Book? It ain’t that quick!
I found that there are days when planning to think about writing, well that’s all I can do. Planning is great but planning isn’t so great.
You need to plan one thing: publishing a book. Yes! absolutely. Publishing a book is one of the hardest and complex things for most people. I suspect that it is because it is so challenging to do this there seems to be so many roadblocks… or are there?
Publishing a book is a myriad of choices, which I’ve gone into detail in, it also gives the impression that publishing a book is quick, okay it might be…
But should it?
With traditional publishing it can take a year to publish a book… is that good? I think it is, as there is a lot of work that goes into publishing a book. designing the cover, editing in three parts: copy editing, proofreading, content editing.
What about self-publishing? The same thing should happen there, but there are some days when I worry that it doesn’t. I’m busy reading two really excellent books, both self-published, and both interesting. But I ask how long should it take? I know that 30-90 is promised but when it’s important and you need a good content edit should you?
No Three blogs this time, but Al, old Man Brian, and Carrie… enjoy!
My question for you today is this: What’s important in publishing a book for you? speed or quality? or something else?

Quality. I try to make the book comparable to traditional books. Patience comes with putting something together yourself and it's good to take your time.

Well, I should say quality, but I write about taxation, so I'd have to say SPEED if I was talking honestly. But the quality really suffers. Congress passes tax law up until the last frigging minute of 2009, and then I get to put together an 800 page book in two months. It sucks. It's good money– but it really sucks. I don't actually sleep for 60 days.

Definitely quality! I am writing a book or should I say I am planning a book I am still working on the details and the outline. I have many notes written and story lines started. But I know once it is done it will be of the best quality it can be. I'm under no time constraints since this is my first book I want to make sure it is right. I appreciate all of your wisdom you offer. Thanks for everything.

I'd say quality, because I want to give my readers the best I can, so they become fans and buy more of my work.

My nature is such that I never compromise on QUALITY. On the other hand, a writer can be conditional only when he is in such a position, I mean a wanted writer who the publishers don't want to lose on.
