What Makes You Write?

I have a number of people who might make the suggestion to ask me what makes me write?  Except well I’m going to tell you and then I’ll ask the questions.  (ha ha)

Have you ever had a feeling that you simply had to sit down and do something about the words floating in your head?

Have you ever held back on that urge to write?

Did it help you in any way?

I have, and I think it has made me a better writer.  I spent a lot of time working on my new website and working to get it up and running, but the most important aspect is that I didn’t write while I was doing this.  Usually, I have a hundred things going on in my  head and I am forever running back to a post-it note or something that I feel might be of use to something else.

So this time I let it go.  This made me realize what makes me write.

For a lot long time I believed it was because I had to get it out of my system, but after pushing this urge away for a few days, doing what needed to be done, and editing my book, and all that I found that what I thought was what makes me write isn’t that simple.  No it’s not about money, it’s not about fame it is about me and what I can do as a writer.

What makes me write is this desire to share, to create something which is greater than myself and something that makes others want to talk about it.  I have to create something better than what I have done in the past and this means going back and re-learning a lot of things.  I also learned how much editing I have to do with my work in general.

And you know what makes me write?  My soul can’t take anything less than this writing.  I have to write to be the person I am meant to be.
