What Is It About Writing Online That Scares People?
I have a blog. It is online. If you are reading this blog, chances are you are online as well. If you haven’t run away just yet, congratulations, you seem to be one of the lucky few. I was thinking about how long I have been writing a blog and how much time it does take.
In fact nursing this blog, and writing online and working on my to be published book of non-fiction, I have come to the conclusion that for some reason online writing scares people after a while. This is merely an observation, but like many writers who began about three years ago, I’ve developed and grew.
Unlike many writers, I still continue with my blogs that have been around for nearly three years. I can say it is fun and I enjoy it and since it is a means to express ideas which I can not do in my books, I’ve enjoyed it as a release.
I think what scares people about online writing is that anyone, writers or not, can do this, and can also make the claims that they make money off of their work.
This is all well and good, but for writers, I think we need to understand that some people are not “writers” but rather Internet marketers. They are the ones who can slap together a blog and then make money from it. That is where I believe the problem with writing a blog comes from.
I do not think that they have as much fun, or take as much pride in learning how to improve their writing, how to share joys– and defeats as well as writers do. I also do not think we writers should be scared of online writing because it is simply that.
Writing.
