Advice #5:
Read books on writing.
I have three that I love. Of course, I have more, and am looking to expand, but these are the three that I seem to go to for more ideas.
The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman.
The 38 most common mistakes Fiction Writers Make by Jack Bickman.
On Writing by Stephen King.
The last one might surprise you, but he does have some very good observations and comments, he has much to say, and does it in a manner that one might not expect to be of use, but for some reason, his writing is a style that speaks well.
