Publishing and Marketing = Who Pays?
January 15, 2010
So Barbara asked a pretty good question yesterday in the comments section:
Here’s the general question do traditional publishers pay for all your marketing?
I asked a few people and the general answer is no, not for everything, especially if the book isn’t selling well or doesn’t have much more potential, then the marketing money comes out of your pocket.
But in general they don’t pay for everything… unless of course you are a big name for them or have a lot of potential as in another book which might help the one you just published.

I think that a publisher is going to pay for the big stuff– but really, the most effective marketing is free– it takes time and work and the author has to do it.
It's blogging, blog tours, writing, showing up at events. You have to just do it– the publisher isn't (and can't) do it for you.

My ESP tells me my comments are eagerly awaited! But why? I am a novice dear!
Rebecca
Christy– yep free marketing from others is the best but I believe it take time and effort people don't like doing, because it is slower.
But it's so rewarding!
Rebecca
JS– yes they are all comments are most welcomed around here. except spam… that isn't but so far I've been lucky.
