Baby Everything is All Write?

I want to have a book published very soon.  Whenever I mention that I have published a book, most people have that reply: oh okay.  They aren’t exactly excited, and maybe it is because I open my big mouth too much for them to see I might actually do it.

The beauty of writing is that any person can do this, but the challenge is not many can finish it, or can even learn to improve.  I was watching Mr. Holland’s Opus, and the music is the one thing I love about this movie.  Then came “the scene” that hit me hard.

I normally don’t pay much attention to the music- but I have always loved Stevie Wonder, and it was the song “uptight (everything is alright) playing in the background with Mr Holland and Lou teaching and learning to play the drums.  This is a moment that I can’t forget, they are working together.

They are helping each other become better.  (Another fantastic moment is just before this where Mr. Holland and Bill and about willingness and teaching.)  Music is at the soul of this movie, and it looks as if it can be at the soul of a writer.  Music and writing should go together.

Baby everything is all write?

Yes, if you are willing to learn and to improve.  It took me a while to find out I need music or some great movies to motivate me to write.  Then it was putting passion out there just like I’m promising I will do at some point and what I learned helped me improve.  I play some Motown just before I start my writing now, just to get myself into a “beat.”  My writing can dance to the music as it were, and a writer needs a beat, and a rhythm.  Improving is also about doing things that scare you.

Yes, if you have help. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  It wasn’t until I asked for help that my writing improved.  I needed my own mentor, and partners.  They can simply be that song which helped me clear my head, or a melody which gave me a sense it was alright to go on and write this.

Yes, if you are willing to find a way to do it.  It doesn’t matter where you begin your writing journey, it matters where you go.  Writing is something that can grow and take you far and up and away– as long as you let it.

Yes, if you understand that there is someone out there better.  Didn’t the song let you know that she’s better than I? Guess what? This same theory hold true with writing- and writers.  There is always a J.K. Rowling, there is always a Malcolm Gladwell, and there is always you.  Learn from them to find your own beat.  Set some new goals and go for them, who knows you might have a book published one day too.

Yes, if you write.  Simple,if you don’t write, you won’t get better, and you won’t learn from every journey you take.  Congratulate yourself, keep writing and everything will be “all write.”

I don't know about anybody else, but for me it's very hard writing a book. There's not only trying to write something that's good but also, battling the doubt that seeps in during every part of the process. The only way to get better at writing is to write. There's no other way.

I loved Mr. Holland's Opus as well. It's harder to write/ publish a book than most people think, but a little supper glue, and a lot of practice will help anyone.
