When A Writing Life gets H-A-R-D
March 9, 2010
This is one of those days… I can’t say I’ll get much done other than to rewrite something i rewrote about 20 minutes ago. Not that writing is hard, but that the writing life is hard.
For some this means leaving certain thins behind, the online community, or life in the outside world ( you know the kind– movies, dinners out, that sort of thing)
I think it is harder when people seem to think because you sit in front of a computer “all day” you have accomplished something grand in the 3 or 4 hours you actually worked.
As any writer can tell you this isn’t the case all the time!
So what do you do when the Writing Life get H-A-R-D?

I go out and do anything else for a while.

I watch something on t.v like a favorite movie or a series and then I try to identify phrases or pieces from that script which resonates with me. I find little pleasures in the words that makes it so hard and very gratifying simultaneously.

I've been feeling this way. Im wonder what the heck Im doing and sometimes I do not get hit with something till like till the end of my writing shift at 4pm and Im like of course when I gotta go now do I get inspired. Also trying to write and wrangle a 5year old is challenging and again I wonder what the heck am I doing.

I have different methods that I employ (none of them working right now, hence the reason I am looking this up) My favorite is to set the computer aside lay my head back, close my eyes and just relax. Often times as soon as I stop trying to get the idea I need, is when it comes. Other times I just pick up a book I like a lot, read a bit, and let it inspire me.
