Writing and Researching Your Books

I’ve started on another book, while it is similar to the last book I have done, it is also very different.  I do intend to self-publish the next book, but I know that there will be a few things that I will do differently.  One of these things is research.

Some will say that a non-fiction book must be researched, and I agree with this statement.  The proviso which I would add is you need to do the correct research and do this over time.  I don’t think that until you have finished your book there is not a time when you are not working on research for your book.

It is very much like writing online, you have you keep on writing if you want to make money with your writing.  You will also need to be factually correct if you want to continue to make money with your writing.  This is the critical point.

Research can even be about the publishers or editors you choose to work with you on your book.  Everyone has a point of view.  What might be “clear” to you might not be for others.  This is why I think that writing and researching your book is a must.

The other thing is that you should not do research in one big lump, you can get lost in the process.  It is like writing, if you enjoy it, because it is your book, you will spend a lot of time researching, so I would suggest not to spend hours at the library figuring things out. Go to the library, but then write something afterwards… everything is about getting that book published.

The point is that no matter where or how you publish you need to do both writing and research to make a good impression.

Even with fiction writing, there's a lot of research to be done. If you want to write a crime drama, you need to know the basics of how the justice system works and such.

I agree that researching editors and publishers are important. Looking up the past books and authors they've worked with helps, as well as making calls when you can to their assistants.
