Would You Publish A Draft? Even if You Think….

Let’s say you want to publish a book which you have just finished.  Let’s even say that this book has been edited on a regular basis by you…

Would you publish it?

Okay, I know we are all writers but we were all amateurs once, and we probably all thought, deep down that our draft was great.

I can say i don’t think so anymore, but I’ve been writing for many years and suffered many embarrassing situations due to that bit of ego.

So even if you think that your book is awesome would you publish a draft?

It is that sort of yes answer I think I fear the most, which is probably why many people looked at me rather oddly when i said I was self-publishing.  Except I’ve had three editors look at this book, so it means more.  So I think there is work to do, but I also think that it means it is not as “drafty” as some other writing out there.

Although many would argue that people buy books and it is for them that I should be writing, I don't think that public opinion matters that much. I'd rather be true to myself and remain relatively unknown than be popular for writing I hate. I participate in an online writing community. Once I wrote a story I really really disliked. However, the other members liked it and now it's went into print. I really felt sorry about submitting that one. Imagine if it was a novel! 🙂
Yes, I'm aiming high so if it's my novel we're talking about I wouldn't publish a draft. Because probably not much of the average readers would get it anyway.
