The Strangest Thing: Visions of Writing and Publishing a Book

It is interesting that today of all days I was able to read in my local paper about the hardship of writers.

“The Publishing is failing… copyrights are failing… writers are poorer… less money” (or in my view– recession and loss of money for paper headlines.)

Really?

Last night I had a wonderful discussion with a small press owner, I never had the chance to really talk to him about the publishing industry as such, and while he is very harsh with comments about vanity presses, he is equally interested with the rise of true self-publishing– as he refers it to. He is of course most interested in e-books, and good editing.

Still, how does timing and technology change our writing life?

For one thing, publishing is done by the best writers– rather the ones who make the most money for the publishers. TA least in the traditional publishing arena.

Yes, I believe the times are about to change, but I think in this self-publishing and e-books will have their day. As long as writers can do the change, which I think we can, there will still be a need for writers.
