Hmm. I'm ambivalent towards self-publishing but I know I'm going to have to get over my prejudices because I suspect self-publishing will just be getting bigger and bigger.

5 benefits of traditional publishing (but I'm sure these are not unique to me)

1. support system
2. concept editorial assistance
3. professional copy editing
4. in place distribution channels
5. external recognition by a professional

5 drawbacks to traditional publishing:

1. imbalance of power between agents/editors and author
2. commercially driven rather than artistically driven
3. excruciatingly hard to break into traditional publishing
4. best selling authors dominate at the expense of quieter authors
5. mmm. can't think of a 5th one.
